Walmart Weighted Groceries Settlement

The Walmart grocery store case is still going on. Walmart is being sued because it is said to be charging too much for groceries that are sold by weight, such as fruits, meat, and other things that are weighed.

Several customers began this case in October 2022 when they saw that the price shown for the weighted goods was not the same as the price they paid for them. People who filed the case say that Walmart has been giving customers the wrong weight of goods, which has caused them to pay more than the item’s real price.

A number of things seem to be causing the problem, such as giving the wrong product weights, labels, and prices for sale items that are too high. People say that these things have caused them to pay more for things than they should have.

Walmart Class Action Lawsuit Allegations

The class action complaint alleges that Walmart engaged in several practices that led to customers being overcharged for weighted groceries:

  • Inflated Product Weights: The lawsuit says that Walmart made some products seem heavier than they were, making people pay more than they should have for the actual weight of these items.
  • Mislabeling of Weight: The claim suggests that Walmart put the wrong weight on bags of fruits and vegetables, leading to customers paying more than what was fair for the real weight of these products.
  • Overcharges on Clearance Items: The lawsuit also claims that Walmart charged too much for items on sale that are sold by weight, making the amount customers paid more than what was advertised as the sale price.

Who can Claim the Settlement?

  • People who want to enter must have bought weighted food at Walmart between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024.
  • In the United States or Puerto Rico, purchases made in person at any Walmart shop, supercenter, or neighbourhood market are eligible.

Walmart Weighted Groceries Settlement Amount

Walmart has decided to pay $45 million to settle the claims, but they haven’t said they did anything wrong. If claimants show proof that they bought qualifying weighted groceries, like a receipt or other piece of paper, they can get 2% of the total cost of their purchases as compensation, up to a maximum of $500 per claimant.

People who want to get paid can still do so even if they don’t have papers or other proof of purchase. They could get a set amount of money between $10 and $25, based on how many eligible products they say they bought.
