I wrote this blog post a few weeks ago. It was cold and snowing. I'd say it was out of date, but I hear there's a chance of snow on Thursday. So for now I'll keep dreaming...
Currently my small heater is blowing at my feet and there is snow piled as high as my house in grocery store parking lots, but this morning I am thinking ahead to summer.
Memorial Day. Independence Day. Thick green grass, sprinklers, children laughing, horseshoes and sunshine. Picnics, fireworks, lightening bugs and flip-flops.
And then there's the food. Hamburgers, hotdogs, fresh salads, ribs, chocolate cake and milkshakes. It sounds picture perfect. I can hardly wait.
Fortunately, I don't have to wait until the snow clears and the temperature warms...at least not for the food. Portillo's is coming to Mishawaka! Even better, they are partnering with the Mishawaka Food Pantry!
On March 7th, from 11:00am to 8:00pm, Portillo's is having a soft opening at their new restaurant at 5102 N. Main Street in Mishawaka. They will be giving away free meals from a limited menu. Portillo's has invited us to be there to accept donations from their customers. Then Portillo's will match the donations up to $5,000! That means that in one day, the Mishawaka Food Pantry has the potential to receive more than $10,000 in donations!
With $10,000 we can serve 6,060 meals!
So join me! Don't wait for summer to enjoy a juicy hamburger and a piece of chocolate cake. Support Portillo's as they go over and above for our community.
