Mission: Literacy, a summer reading program

Under privileged children are normally behind when it comes to literacy. Why is this?

Well, children who come from financially well-off backgrounds are more likely to have people read to them at a young age.

Here at the Pantry, we see this as an injustice to under privileged children.

That is why we are welcoming a Salvation Army readership program at the Mishawaka Food Pantry.

The program is designed to equip children with necessary tools, as well as character-building truths from the Bible. It starts on Wednesday, June 14 and continues every Wednesday until August 2. Sessions begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m.

The primary audience is children struggling at a 1st through 3rd grade reading level, and those wanting to maintain this level over the summer.

If you have any questions, contact Jan Marable at 574-233-9471 or Jada Roberson at 574-276-3434. Please submit the registration form ASAP!

The Salvation Army is reaching hearts and changing lives one word at a time, and what better location to have such a program other than the Mishawaka Food Pantry?
